Vladimir Putin tells Emmanuel Macron that Russia will achieve its goals in Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin told Frenchman Emmanuel Macron on Thursday that the goals of Russia's actions in Ukraine would be achieved no matter what, the Russian government said.
The Russians claim that the purpose of invading Ukrainian territory is to demilitarize the country and adopt neutrality towards the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Russian troops took control of Ukraine's first major city since the invasion began. Bombings against other urban centers intensified, forcing more than a million civilians to flee their homes. Further negotiations on a possible ceasefire are scheduled for Thursday.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky celebrates the heroic resistance of his people. Western countries have intensified sanctions, blockades and boycotts against Russia.
